Plan of Salvation

God’s Purpose

We can receive eternal life as a free gift. (Romans 6:23)

We can spend eternity with Jesus in heaven. (John 14:3)

Our Need

We are all sinners by nature and by choice. (Romans 3:23)

We cannot save ourselves. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God’s Provision

Jesus died for us on the cross. (1 Peter 3:18, Romans 5:8)

Jesus was resurrected from the dead for us. (Romans 4:25)

Our Response

We must repent of our sins (Acts 3:19) (i.e., turn from our sins to Jesus).

We must place our faith in Jesus. (Ephesians 2:8)

How to Become a Christian

God loves you.  Because of God’s love for all persons, He desires that you have unbroken fellowship with Him.  (Jn. 3:16; Eph. 2:4-5)

You are a sinner.  All persons are sinners in that they disobey God.  Sin is choosing to go your own way and do your own thing as opposed to being obedient to God.  (Isa. 53:6; Rom. 3:10)

Sin separates you from God.  Sin forms a barrier that prevents you from entering into unbroken fellowship with God.  (Isa. 59:2, Rom. 3:23)

You can’t save yourself.  People often think that through their efforts they can overcome the sin barrier.  (Eph. 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Rom. 4:4-5)

God sent His Son Jesus to remove the sin barrier.  The death on the cross of Christ, God’s Son, removed the sin barrier between you and God.  (1 Pet. 2:24, Rom. 5:8, 2 Cor. 5:21)

You can receive Christ through faith.  Faith is trusting in what Jesus has done for you rather than trusting your own efforts to restore fellowship with God.  (Jn. 14:6, Acts 16:31, Rom. 10:9 – 10)

Through prayer you can trust in Christ.  Admit to God that you are a sinner.  Express sorrow or repentance for your sinfulness.  Ask Him to forgive your sins.  Invite Jesus into your life as Savior and Lord.
